Flight Information

When we Fly

We fly just after sunrise in the mornings and about 2 hours before sunset when the air is calm and the English countryside is at its best

We wil confirm a meeting time and place (usually near Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire) after receiving your booking form

Usually we fly between 500 and 2500 feet, heights where one can truly appreciate the beauty of the landscape silently passing beneath you.

We require calm and stable conditions and good visibility. For safety reasons we do not operate in winds over 10 knots (abut 12 mph) or in rain.

In most cases we can assess the situation on the evening before the morning flight, or in the early afternoon of the same day's evening flight. A simple call to our 'weather line' is usually all that is required to check the flight situation. Sometimes, however the final decision cannot be made until the last minute by the captain. If the flight is postponed you may rearrange for another suitable date.

Of all the types of air transport, balloon travel is by far the safest. Our balloons are inspected regularly and issued with a certificate of airworthiness. All balloon captains hold Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) commercial licenses requiring annual flight tests and medical examinations.

GREAT ESCAPE BALLOONING is licensed by the CAA as a Public Transport Operator

Suitable Clothing

Outdoor clothing suitable for the time of the year is recommended. Dress as if you were going for a country walk, preferably with trousers and long sleeves. It is no colder in the balloon than on the ground. Garments made from natural rather than man-made fibres are best.

Bring plenty of batteries for cameras and video recorders but please note that space is restricted and equipment may only be taken on board at your own risk.

All of our balloons are insured to cover Public and Passenger liability in accordance with current requirements of the Civil Aviation regulations.
